I then purchased a 30 watt solar float charger with built in controller that outputs 12v for 19.99 from AliExpress. A pain in the ass to say the least so here is what I did about it.įirst I bought a high quality 12v Lead Acid sealed battery meant for a battery backup unit from Battery+ which cost me 19.99, I then went on Amazon and got a 12v to 3v buck converter that was water proof for 10.99. He is older and with the seasons the battery packs only lasted 6 or so months requiring me to drive over, remove the metal lid, go into this hole filled with spiders, remove the flume 2, replace the battery pack and then put everything back. My dad has a flume 2 and his water meter is outside in a box, aka lift up a metal plate and the meter is inside. I know this is an old thread but thought I would throw my hat in. Let's see how this works out in a few months time. I would try solving this by copying Flume and use electrician tape to wrap the batteries tightly, so they can't be popped out by the plastic expansion and contraction. So the problem of fast draining was probably due to unreliable connection, I speculated that this was caused by huge temperature changes that push one of the batteries out of their contacts, breaking the parallel supply. I then look at how the batteries were connected, in fact I found that the batteries were 2x2 to supply 3V with twice the current by paralleling 2 pairs of AA lithiums. Strangely I measured that 2 of the Energizer were completely depleted, but the other two were still 1.45V. ![]() ![]() Energizer Lithium has built-in protection. It is a straight plastic battery holder, there is no hidden circuit. I don't buy the crab that Flume claimed the battery pack had a proprietary circuit. I replaced it with Energizer Lithium but only lasted two months and they died yesterday.
